Part 1

After reading “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott, I have drawn some similarities between what she says and what I have in my paper. My rough draft also did feel like it was pulling teeth to write. It was not easy and did not feel organized, or even coherent. It definitely felt like it was a first draft and I do agree that the first draft should be the “child” draft, where everything that comes to mind should be written down. Typing my paper did not feel like what Lamott’s friend said, “you can either type, or kill yourself” because I knew that at some point my ideas would come to me. This essay was very blunt and got straight to the point, and in my opinion was funny.

Part 2

The peer review process was very helpful to me for figuring out what I needed to fix for my final draft. I received some great feedback from my peers, and I know what I did well on as well as what I need to work on. My goal for my final draft is to fix any issues I had with organization and ideas. The steps for me to achieve these goals are to first make my thesis more specific. This will help give my essay more of a focus and purpose. Next, I will clear up what I want to say with my body paragraphs. I will relate my paragraphs more closely to my thesis, allowing me to make my essay flow better. Lastly, I will look over my paragraphs to make sure they are in a proper order. This will allow my essay to flow more fluently. The biggest challenge I see myself facing when finalizing my essay is adding more information to get to word count, but also keep this new information on topic and relatable to my thesis. This will be challenging because during my rough draft, I found it hard to stay on topic with what I was writing about, and didn’t think most of what I said could be traced back to my thesis. If I ever face a challenge that I find too hard to overcome on my own, I have many resources I can use to solve my problem. I could set up a meeting with Emmy to talk it over, or I could talk to one of my peers about what I could do that would fix the problem.
